Particles Colloquium: Measurement of the inelastic pp cross-section at LHCb

Start: End: Location: Seminar room CP-03-123

On 30.11 Prof. Dr. Michael Schmelling will present the topic "Measurement of the inelastic pp cross-section at LHCb".

Abstract:
Despite its apparent simplicity, this fundamental observable is surprisingly difficult to measure. The talk presents the LHCb result for 13 TeV pp collisions, with a focus on the conceptual problems and the methods employed to address them. A novelty is the use of probability generating functions to correct for detector effect.
